Cryptocurrency Exchange & Blockchain in The Army

Armed forces around the world have a well-deserved reputation as extremely conservative structures - they are very reluctant to accept innovations. Usually, many years pass between the introduction of a new technology in the civilian sector and its appearance in the military. But this does not mean that the military does not follow the latest innovations and the latest achievements of science at all - they are just waiting for the technology to prove its efficiency. Blockchain technology was no exception - more than ten years after the rapid development of blockchain, cryptocurrencies and crypto exchange software platforms began, the military around the world finally began to pay attention to it.

Moreover, we must give some to the military - they strive to use all the advantages provided by the blockchain at once, so that research programs regarding the use of this technology cover a variety of areas of activity.

Using blockchain to protect data

The most obvious way to use blockchain is to protect databases. After all, given the military's love of secrets, it would be foolish to expect that they would not be interested in a technology that allows you to create a super-secure database, which no potential adversary can tamper with. This is especially true now, in the era of actively conducted cyber wars and the rapid development of cyberattack technologies.

Of course, for the direct control of troops (the so-called “combat Internet”), the blockchain is not suitable - all other things being equal, the use of the blockchain still leads to some delay in data transfer. In an environment where the speed of decisions is one of the most important requirements, this is unacceptable.

However, for the huge administrative apparatus that provides the activities of any modern army, crypto solutions are just a godsend. With its help, you can both streamline paperwork and guarantee information security.

Blockchain in military logistics

Perhaps, this direction is the most promising today when it comes about using blockchain directly within the military. Logistics is a key component of the military machine - the saying "amateurs study tactics, professionals study logistics" appeared a long time ago, but it is still true. Any optimization of logistics chains has a huge impact on of the armed forces combat capability. Moreover, logistics has become one of the key areas of practical application of blockchain - the largest shipping companies in the world have been using blockchain in their work for a long time.

So the attention paid to the use of blockchain in logistics, for example, by the US Army, is not surprising.

Military Blockchain Auctions

The constant cycle of purchasing new weapons, equipment, clothing, gear and other property and selling outdated ones to free up warehouses is an integral part of the work of most military departments in the world.

This practice has been going on for decades, but until recently, most of these auctions were held only for large companies, which then engaged in the retail sale of decommissioned military equipment.

However, the development of software for online auctions has led to the fact that the military of different countries began to look closely at the possibility of conducting online retail auctions - so they can get more money, and buyers do not have to pay intermediary companies.

So far, military online auctions are at the beginning of their development path - most of the military equipment still goes to wholesale buyers from large businesses. However, the development of blockchain technologies, crypto trading platforms and auction software has not gone unnoticed by the military, moreover, they clearly like the results of the first experiments, so in the near future we will see an active spread of such auctions.

However, you can learn more about the use of blockchain in military auctions in our separate article

Using Blockchain to support veterans

Perhaps the most controversial, but at the same time very interesting direction is the use of blockchain, cryptocurrencies and cryptocurrency platforms to raise funds to support veterans. The idea may sound strange, but it has already been implemented: in the spring of 2021, the $MIL token issued by Military.Finance entered the market and appeared on cryptocurrency trading platforms. The company transfers part of its revenue to the charity Heart of a Lion Foundation, which is engaged in financial support of American veterans.

On the one hand, this is certainly a noble mission and such business attention to the problems of veterans can only be welcomed.

On the other hand, despite the connection with veteran organizations, $MIL is de facto no different from hundreds of other DeFi tokens traded on cryptoсurrency exchange platform ($MIL is traded on the decentralized PancakeSwap crypto trading platform). In other words, it is exactly the same speculative asset as the rest of the coins traded on cryptocurrency trading sites. And at the same time, it is impossible to forget that veteran support is mainly a marketing tool both this coin and possible new coins.

However, the example of $MIL convincingly proves that blockchain is an extremely valuable technology for the entire military community. And not only from the point of view of how official structures can use blockchain technologies to increase their efficiency, but also from the point of view of strengthening the community of veterans and active military personnel, and providing this community via trading platforms for cryptocurrency with real financial opportunities for mutual support.

Conclusion

Of course, this article is only a superficial overview of the potential impact of blockchain on the armed forces and military personnel.

Firstly, each country has its own rules of the game and has its own peculiarities of the organization of the armed forces, so it is simply impossible to cover all the variety of programs for the military use of blockchain in one material.

Secondly, the most significant programs for the introduction of blockchain technologies into the armed forces are classified. And even about those programs whose existence has become public, we know very little, their details, for obvious reasons, are not disclosed.

Thirdly, we should not forget that the military began to conduct experiments with the blockchain quite recently. For example, the US Army began the first research on this topic only in 2019. That is, literally within a year, the picture of the use of blockchain technologies by the military may change beyond recognition - the "military blockchain" is now at the stage of rapid initial development and elaboration of concepts.

So we will definitely return to the topic of military use of blockchain in a few months - and during this time, a lot of interesting new information will definitely emerge.
